Here stood the Winter Velodrome between 1903 and 1959, the Mecca of sports competition in France before being watched helplessly as the famous raid orchestrated by the Nazis in July 1942.

Another lesser known fact, the district bleach is the site of the former locality Javetz, where the chemist Claude Louis Berthollet devised in 1777 for a famous industrial-based disinfectant sodium hypochlorite: water bleach.
